Immediately talking about race relations within his current team is not clearly going out of his to avoid the topic.
If he were avoiding it and bothered by it, he would have said something like "I wasn't here in 2015 and don't want to comment on it. Next question.".
Instead he goes on to the topic of 2015 of race relationships.
