DOT is an alternative to ETH. Like Apple and Android. Etherium 2.0 was created because of PolkaDot's technology. They knew that PolkaDot would become the network of choice, for scalability reasons, and had to make a change from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake to hold thier market share of new projects. It's a good idea to hold both of them.
