I suspect on the KC metro area has the second greatest concentration of Mizzou fans and supporters to only the St. Louis metro area.
Mizzou needs all the fan support it can generate in order to compete in the SEC. Look at the measures of fan support, i.e. attendance, donations, revenue, etc. Mizzou is well down in all of these areas compared to the SEC power programs.
KC Tiger fans generally would like to see a resumption of contests with KU and KState. If Mizzou never plays either school or schedules other games in the area, fan support for and interest in Tiger athletics will begin to wane. I.e. instead of supporting Mizzou, some fans will simply totally buy into supporting the Chiefs.
Not playing KU because of some perceived or actual slight by Bill Self is a bad move for Mizzou and a good move for KU. It is counterproductive.
