I think many people are concerned about Trump pushing the approval of the vaccine to help him get re-elected. Once that concern is no longer valid, I think we'll get back to the numbers from earlier this year when 70+% of the public said they would get a vaccine when polled.
I know I'm definitely not getting one on the first day either way and I think many people will take that approach. Let others get it, check if it's effective and side effect free, and then get one. But assuming a vaccine is approved late this year or early next year, I think by this time next year we are going to have most of the country vaccinated and stuff will be getting close to normal.
If we get around that 70% number vaccinated and add in the people who have already caught it, that should be more than enough to have herd immunity, even at 50% effectiveness. Hopefully that 50% effectiveness number isn't the final number either. Fauci has also said his hope is the initial vaccine would be closer to 75% effective.
