Should probably make sure a country can feed itself and keep going if everyone else decides to shut us out for some reason.

Plus, I'm sure we acquire the energy at a more environmentally friendly clip.

Oil and gas isn't going anywhere until the vast majority of automobiles are fueled with other methods. Shouldn't we get the stuff here where we control it and aren't as messy?
