1) On the QB stuff, pretty hilarious they announced Bazelak as the starter on the video board. Not sure if it was to screw with Saban or a mix up.
IMO, Robinson was everything that I was told that he was. I'm not sure what the hell some of you were watching, but I was watching a QB running for his life as soon as the ball was snapped. Despite that, no picks, no fumbles (well, there was one Knox should have got on top of - his effort was meh).
But, did you see the accuracy? He was hitting guys in the chest, under pressure, on the run, all game. It would help that some of those guys catch the ****ing ball.
Did you see the side arm throws he was making around defenders? Very few people can make those throws and again, if his ****ing receivers could catch, probably ESPN top plays.
My only knock on Robinson: He held the ball too long and tried to hard to make plays. We weren't going to win in those situations regardless and he knew that, I'm sure. But, the tendency to hold the ball and run is because during scrimmages, he could easily get around our defenders for positive yardage...just can't do that against the best of the best.
Overall, I'd give Robinson an A-. A pretty solid effort with mediocre receiving talent and a horrible O-line that constantly ****ed up the blocking scheme.
For those of you calling for Bazelak. Yes, he has a better arm, but he was missing wide open guys in the backfield because he doesn't have the accuracy Robinson does. He's a solid backup this year, but trust me, he's not going to win us games like Robinson will.
TLDR: Robinson is a hell of a QB that has a very unique skill set. We will win many games this year BECAUSE of him and we lost to Alabama regardless of him.
2) Receivers. Pretty meh. Hazelton was open a lot, and funny enough, the guy nicknamed "Mr. Reliable" dropped some big passes, not usually his behavior. DPJ did a good job blocking, but again, got to catch the touchdown pass. Both Bazelak and Robinson had some really nice throws that they just couldn't pull in. My grade? C-
3) Oline - they suck. They are down some guys (COVID) but they suck and will suck all year. Thank god this was the best d-line they will see. Hopefully gives them tape to work from. F
4) RBs - hard to do much when your oline sucks. B
5) D-line - awful until the backups were in. D
6) D-backs...look, they all gave up some big plays (including Rakestraw, who also had some really nice plays as well). Hard to keep 1st round draft picks covered forever while the QB just sits in a clean pocket with no stress. This group isn't bad. The god damn D-line needs to be better (and will against lesser competition) B
7) Special teams - Everyone looked solid except Bannister. What.The.****.Bro. A-
COACHING/Playcalling: Look - what I saw from Drink's offensive scheme was pretty awesome. Guys were open, they called the right plays, I loved the shifts and disguises. Coaching/playcalling IMO was really good on both sides of the ball. The talent discrepancy was too big. But Drink was getting guys open.
Also, extremely pleased the team got two TDs in the end. Bama still had a lot of starters out there, not to mention a top 5 QB recruit who would start from nearly all other teams. Our guys kept fighting and kept giving energy. Really, really pleased with the effort.
Overall: Playcalling in my book, was an A. We won't lose many games because our coaching staff doesnt know what it's doing.
Finally, I am really looking forward to the Tennessee game. Who knows if we win or lose, but I think everyone will see what our team actually looks like against equal talent-ish.
