A National Registry of Exonerations study found 54% of wrongful convictions over the past 30 years involved misconduct by prosecutors or law-enforcement officers. The percentages were significantly higher among exonerated Black people, who saw such misconduct as a factor in 78% of wrongful convictions in murder cases and 87% of cases in which death sentences were imposed, the study found.
