I get it but I think the players should have significant say here. Do we want to treat them like adolescents and decide when they can play a game they've dedicated the last few years to mastering? They are either adults or their not. As long as there is no intentional punishment for a player sitting out they should be allowed to make the decision. These are the same "kids" that we pay several thousand per year in stipends, give a free education because of their elite athletic talent that is marketable, and will soon be able to sell their name and personality on the market. Does anyone believe these guys are going to sequester themselves in a dorm room or go home and not hang out with other young adults if they don't play football? It's going to be like baseball, some teams will have crappy luck and have to sit down several players and others will get through largely unscathed. As long as these guys are playing as free, liberty-loving adult males that can make adult decisions I don't see the problem.
