point in general was that just because politicians keep doing something, doesn't mean it's good policy as your logic implied.

I'm not just talking about the left, either. Examples of persistent bad policy on the right include (1) continuing to fight abortion rights tooth & nail, and (2) the relentless pursuit of giving tax breaks & loopholes to the wealthiest people/corporations in the world.

EDIT: To be clear, the left's agenda is far worse overall. Unfortunately, there is no moderate party for independents like myself to vote for, so I have to choose between the lesser of two evils — and these days, that's an easy choice.
