...and I came to that conclusion because he doesn't explain what he thinks white privilege is, and then approaches it almost as though he's the victim : "the idea that you can target a ethnic group of a collective crime... is abhorrent", and he's saying that because he's part of the ethnic group being targeted.
On its face, I understand his sentiment about collective judgment and I concur that it's awful, but I think he's coming approaching this from the wrong angle. 'White privilege' is really a misnomer -- it's not a privilege that's earned, as the video suggested privileges should be obtained, but rather an advantage conferred simply by being born with a specific skin color.
White privilege was explained to me as such:
"It doesn't mean you haven't worked hard, or had two jobs, or made good choices, or struggled and persevered, or that you haven't earned what you currently have.
Just ask yourself if all those things you've done would have been easier to accomplish had you been black."
If you're white, and you can honestly say that nothing would have been made harder for you, so be it. But if you can think of a few instances where maybe being white helped, then that's what's meant by white privilege. The privilege wasn't 'earned', but you didn't have to overcome your skin color in order to achieve the same success.
