a bit of an increase anyway to build up the herd immunity in case they're right about a real 2nd wave in the fall/winter.
Their original rationale for shutting everything down and the social distancing was to keep from exceeding the hospitals' maximum capacity. We never came close to that and in fact hospitals have been pretty empty and doctors and nurses have been furloughed.
Ideally, they would let things take their natural course until we reach that estimated 50% to 60% threshold where the number of cases would drop on their own regardless of what people do. Perhaps we're at or near that point already anyway.
