rather than personal ideology, this happens. It is why justices on the left cross over much less often. It is much harder to change feelings about how you wish things were and want them to be.
Justice Scalia spoke about how judges who are rightly doing their job will often rule in ways that make them personally uncomfortable. But the job is to interpret the law as it stands, not to mold it to fit how you wish it to be.
