identity based on gender, skin color and myriad other characteristics, we've actually accomplished the exact opposite outcome.

All I hear from people these days is about groups based on identity.

But hey, only a kook thinks of individual liberty as being paramount. We have the collective moral good to worry about - R's and D's, L's and R's both in agreement that the role of gvmt is not to preserve individual liberty, but to define, enforce and ensure identity group equality.
