The Church is private property. No state or federal official has carte blanche access to it. Trump did not contact the church to inquire about damages or to set up a visit. He just bullied his way over there and at the very moment he was uttering the words that he stands with/supports the peaceful protesters, his AG was having them tear gassed and flash bombed.
The thing is - that WAS a real missed opportunity. A decent man, a caring man would have reached out to ask for the access - to express sorrow for the damage and THEN could have set up a speech to bring folks together - Christians, Agnostics, Muslims, all of us are Americans.
Instead he did none of that and posed holding a bible his daughter had delivered to him as if it were some odd foreign specimen. It was a VERY bad move.
