outside of more testing and an advance on getting treatments ahead, I don't see how this could have been really stopped without a big government intervention and major disruption of the economy.
Maybe it keeps NYC from being as big of an epicenter as it was (although if you believe what you read, that came from Europe, not Asia).
I think the best we could have done was to get testing up faster, and do a better job of protecting nursing homes. Neither of which would have required massive shut downs like we had.
The virus would have still got here and spread widely, and we would then have had state shutdowns like we are now.
Government simply over-reacted, and probably would have over-reacted in above case as well..
