If a cancer patient dies and also had the Corona, both will probably be listed as causes of death. So plus one for both cancer and Corona. Add in diabetes, hypertension, etc and you could have 5 or so contributing causes of death.
An autopsy may help determine the actual reason, but the costs aren't warranted in almost all of the cases. Like you said, it's not an exact science in the first place.
But to list Corona as a cause of death, you should have to have a positive test result and not assume anything. At least that's my opinion.
