That is the worst stat in MU bb history in my opinion, by a wide margin. When we joined the SEC it was entirely reasonable to assume we would be among the top 3 or 4 teams on a year in and year out basis. Instead we have been a afterthought at best in conference and most of the time a bottom of the conference dreg.
The reason for this is since joining the SEC we have gone a combined 11-61 on the road in SEC games. That is woefully inept. MU can never be a serious program unless they drastically turn that around.
They way to do that is to use non-con play to prepare your team for hostile environments and challenging situations so that when conference play starts they don't melt when faced with such situations. Missouri playing 'road' games in the state of Missouri does not accomplish that, in fact it burns one of our very small amount of available true road non-con games without in any way accomplishing that. Syracuse is rightly criticized often in their NCAA tourney resume for never actually leaving New York in the non-con, this would be the same thing.
Missouri should never play road games in the state of Missouri. Not home and homes, not 2 for 1s, not ever. They should absolutely welcome competitive games with in state opponents and play them as frequently as the schedule allows. It would be great to play SMS every year and replace some of the non-interesting/non-competitive non-con opponents with them. But not on the road.
