ing a massive number of people all get sick at once and overwhelm the healthcare system. (Insert idiotic pickle response about "what healthcare system).

Because when those resources are taxed to the limit and patients are being stacked in the hallways is when some serious decisions will be made regarding how to assign resources in terms of both personnel and equipment gets deployed. Suddenly the person who WAS a survivable patient succumbs to pneumonia because they didn't have enough respirators or enough personnel to monitor patients.

Yes the elderly are most at risk, but when the system is being taxed severely another age class becomes dangerously susceptible to this virus.
