Just this morning I was giving one of my employees their annual performance bonus. Most of them were thinking it would be a couple thousand dollars this year. It ended up being more than last year's bonus. This lady, with dyed blue hair, told me "That's horsesh*t. The company did well this year and we earned a bigger bonus than this." What ran through my head at that moment was almost exactly what you said in your post.
