If parties were abolished, informal confederacies would replace them. Trading of votes would continue and the birds of a feather would still flock together.
It's like The Chest; she is a crappy speaker (sorry raskputin) but the job is important. The children need to be directed, advised and mentored. Instead they are extorted, and coerced into doing the bidding of the elders.
That wouldn't go away, it would go underground.
