While the focus is square on football, it gives cover to Martin while he struggles. Once Barry finally gets fired, and the new coach takes over a complete basket case, all attention will be shifted to Martin.
You can't make the same argument in football and basketball. In basketball you can turn around the program in one single year.
We went from the worst program to the tournament thanks to the Porters, who also helped recruit other guys.
Since that time Martin hasn't been very successful and he's striking out left and right recruiting Missouri players.
It appears at least right now Mizzou is headed for another losing season or at best a 500 season. Martin only has four years in which he can't be fired.
With Barry gone, the attention will be turned to basketball.
Next year is going to be a year that Martin gets put under the microscope. All the media, all the fans, everything will fall square on him. Produce results or face the wrath.
I'm starting to doubt Martin was a good hire, as he puts way to much focus on defense. The 5 star guys are a different breed thinking about the NBA... with that they want the ball and they want to score.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Martin if Barry gets fired. I wonder out loud if he's ready for the spotlight to fall directly on his head next.
