The damage from that end of that season are just now really being fully recognized.
I don't want to sit here and trash Odom. That's been done plenty and will only continue. As most folks have indicated, there's little reason to think we don't finish 5-7. I know this was our first home loss, but I expect a loss to Tennessee next week, and we haven't won a road game all year.
I realize Arkansas is bad, but we're on a 4 game skid.
The idea that there aren't coaches out there that would take this job is simply not true. It's a matter of our history, which indicates to this point that we're just not a school willing to put the kind of $$$ out there to go after one.
I had a good friend the other day (KU grad) ask me " Do you think if you all had Les Miles, you would be a better coached team. I said " Yes I do." Now can I prove that? No. However, I do think a coach who has proven SEC success at the highest level would be a benefit.
My assumption is even with a 5-7 finish, we retain Odom for another year.
That being said, when it comes to the "We don't have the $$$", I reminded that we just completed a $98 million renovation/expansion of the south endzone, so that argument simply isn't true.
One person stated that we all bought into the KB hype, and maybe that's accurate. We were 5-1 and ranked, and then suddenly our solid O-Line fell apart. Our WR's couldn't get separation (quoting BO), and our defense can only be on the bend but don't break for so long.
A buddy from Iowa today texted me and said," Stands don't look very full. Is it that cold?"
Me: nope...3 things:
1. It's deer season.
2. We're not a good team, so fans who might have skipped the hunt, are electing to hunt.
3. The fanbase hasn't gotten over 2015.
Sigh...
