For those willing to do some research, the BBC ran a story a couple of years ago regarding U.S. and Russian interference in foreign elections from the end of WWII to 2000.
The story relied upon analysis by various English academics. It concluded the U.S. had interfered in (if memory serves) some sixty (60) foreign elections and the USSR had interfered in 48.
Perhaps the classic case was our installation of the Shah as ruler of Iran and, if memory serves, the invasion of Guatemala in Latin America.
U.S. interference ran the gambit and included direct monetary support for candidates and publicly promising that U.S. aid to the country would increase if a particular candidate won. And in some instances, direct military intervention.
Anyone who thinks that world powers don't interfere in foreign elections, including the elections of other world powers, is very naive. the bottom line is we have done it and we continue to do it all the time.
