First, they don't work. Jobs have been harder to come by, so by and large, they aren't working to earn their own money and buy things. Their parents buy them whatever they want and they have no skin in the game, so they don't care and don't appreciate it. That may be a reflection of our generation as parents - maybe we all had to work for it, so we don't want our kids to be in the same boat, I don't know. Some of it is tech - it's a more connected world and more disconnected personally at the same time. By the same token, they're less materialistic in many respects. They're not worried about buying houses and acquiring things (other than games, computers and such, or things that they can access social media on). They seem content to wear what they wear and look like homeless folks and live in a tent down by shantytown. I think a lot of them try drugs because they're bored and they get hooked before they know it's got the hooks in them.
