No, my argument, or 'the funny part', is, with regard to 'cheating', your fan base's 'selective' interpretation of it. ('What we did WASN'T cheating!')
If you 'cheat', or if you 'cheated', going around scornfully, self-righteously and smugly denouncing somebody else doing it (which ... um ... has been known to happen on this forum) is more than a little laughably hypocritical, Eggs.
Your 'argument' seems to be that if OJ Simpson started going around scornfully, self-righteously and smugly denouncing Charles Manson for being a murderer, he would be justified in doing so, because OJ didn't kill as many people as Manson did.
If "every institution cheats to a degree" and you admit your own is included in that, you (your fan base, collectively) might want to think about tapping the brakes on the scornful, self-righteous and smug denunciations of that practice in any other institution. Maybe?
Then again, directing this missive to a member of the same fan base that routinely ridicules other institutions for their team's performance in the NCAA Tournament when their own hasn't won a single game in that competition since 2010, probably will miss it's mark.
