To get the high reputation that has developed with the likes of Alabama, ND, Michigan, OSU, USC, OU and Texas it takes decades of high levels of success. Even Florida and NE has done it at a high level under two coaches. However, NE unfortunately was located in a state, that was in ... well, Nebraska. Several schools have had good runs under one coach, but didn't repeat it often enough under others. BYU comes to mind there. GA, LSU, has been close at times. It takes a lot of years of winning and getting that mystic attached to them also.
Clemson is making a run at that level for the last few years under Sweeney. Now they have to keep it going for another 10+ under him and then do it with another coach and they could join that elite group.
