He didn't come because he was oppressed because he wasn't a Puritan and didn't care for Puritans. In fact, he found the religious atmosphere in Massachusetts Bay Colony not to his liking, so he and other Anglicans moved on to Connecticut and founded the town of Wethersfield. He was 57 years old and a Senior Warden at the Anglican Church in Wooditton, Cambridgeshire where he was born and baptized in 1578, grew up, married and where all his children were baptized. This same church is still in operation today.
Why he came to America at the end of his life with most of his family is a mystery to me and I would love to find out what he was thinking. He was killed by Indians two years later trying to rescue two girls the Indians had kidnapped.
