Develops guards who have “great success in the League.” By this, I assume he means the NBA rather than the prison league or the league in Cyprus or Lebanon. It is true that Lawrence allows you to “be yourself” and do as you wish, but “great success in the league” seems to not include development for the NBA. A look back at ku’s NBA guards over the last decade.

JOSH SELBY- After being ruled completely ineligible out of high school, he immediately suited up for ku anyway his freshman year then was later suspended for nine games for accepting illegal benefits. He advanced to become a second team All-American , avoiding the potholes associated with exposing himself and sexually assaulting females in the ku basketball dorm elevator, being sued and not appearing in court, Played sparingly in two years in the NBA, posting numbers of 2.2 ppg then headed to Europe, was arrested several times for child support non-payment, and his whereabouts are apparently unknown.

BEN MCLEMORE: Also completely ineligible as a freshman, when his high school was not even able to produce a transcript, he suited up anyway for ku and became a 2nd team All-American. The #7 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by Sacramento, he was waived by the Kings early last season after averaging 3.9 ppg in 19 games, deemed as a team “cancer”.

J.R. GIDDENS- Five-star recruit was not chosen as a McDonald’s All-American because it was uncertain if he even attended high school his senior year. Suited up for ku anyway, and was a complete bust, more interested in attempting to murder fellow students in Lawrence by smashing their heads with bricks outside nightclubs. Transferred to New Mexico and became a first-round draft pick. Played 38 games in four seasons and was labeled as a “huge talent and a completely uncoachable idiot.” By a Celtics executive.

DEVONTAE GRAHAM: A success story by ku standards. Developed into a first team All-American his senior season, no arrests or illegal benefits have come to surface. Averaged 4.7 ppg for the Hornets last year. May be headed for the G-League next year.

XAVIER HENRY: A McDonald’s All-American and the #6 player in his class, he was alleged to have received illegal benefits from ku but played anyway his freshman season, and was decent (10 ppg) then declared for the NBA draft because he had not attended any classes during the season. Bounced around from the NBA to the G-League with multiple teams until washing out with career averages of 5.7 ppg.

FRANK MASON: Developed into the Wooden Player of the Year at ku and was drafted by Sacramento in 2017. After two seasons of poor production, he was waived mid-way through his second season.

JOSH SELBY: Perhaps among the most ineligible players ever to enroll at ku, he was widely considered to be one of the top three players in his class and a McDonald’s All-American out of high school. Sadly, he was one of the only completely ineligible players ku was unable to squeeze through the system of the NCAA. He was simply so ineligible, even ku could not get him to play. He played 38 games in the NBA from 2011-2013 and averaged 2,2 ppg. Whereabouts unknown.,

TYSHAWN TAYLOR: He was only the #77 player in his class, but immediately became a ku legend when he and teammates attacked some of the ku football players in an alley and beat them with sticks and clubs. His “point plankin’” comments on social media will always be revered by jayhawk fans young and old. A true wordsmith and fine citizen. He was drafted in the second round in in 2012 by the Nets and gave them two good seasons (2.2 ppg) spending most of his criminal life in the G-League,
