Amino acids, but they exist in significant quantities in all sorts of plant based foods as well. If you’re going to be a vegan, just like any restrictive diet, you’re going to need to be educated enough to know how to get the essential building blocks you need, especially for protein synthesis. I’m assuming he was consuming plenty of quinoa, hemp seeds, chia seeds, soy, etc.... which do contain all 9 essential amino acids. It’s not hard, but you can’t be lazy about it either.
