standards they choose.

But when candidates choose to attend they are, in effect, endorsing those views.

If a candidate attended a Klan meeting would he be able to shrug it off with ‘its was their meeting I was just invited to speak.’ as I saw one of the Dems claim on camera?

The issue here is more about the double standard in my opinion.
