Jefferson Davis practically begged for a trial on sedition or other high crimes as it related to his actions during the Civil War.

It was finally realized the last thing anyone needed, or more importantly, wanted was to have all sorts of actions of both citizens, politicians and government itself in the lead up to and during the war exposed and paraded out in open court. Too messy.

And he lived out his life undisturbed after authorities realized what was just mentioned.
