Not a particularly encouraging result, even though that was a conference road game that S. Carolina team was not very talented. Allowing them to get 29 points from the free throw line was the killer, as well as having so many live ball turnovers that resulted in easy transition baskets.
11 assists to 20 turnovers and 2 fast break points, that is an uphill battle. Working way to hard to generate baskets.
The more I see of Pickett, the more I'm reminded of a young Demarre Carroll. He is just a smaller version of him, but he does all the same things and has a similar skill set.
Santos appears to be kind of a poor man's version of Justin Safford, which is fine but not the savior this particular team needs. Tilmon is really the only player on the roster who is capable of being a difference maker, and he can't seem to stay on the court or be effective when he faces foul trouble.
I really think Cuonzo is doing some remarkable work given this roster, he is getting about as much as can be extracted from them. Much of the team is currently composed of 'just guys', who aren't really taking things off the table but don't really have the capacity to bring much too it either. With Jontay going down, we really needed Puryear to be able to emerge to a lesser degree in his spot and that simply isn't something he can do.
Pinson needs more than 5 minutes, games like Sunday are what happens when you essentially play the whole game without a pg. I don't see anything that Watson can bring to the table at this point that Pinson couldn't, so I'm not sure I understand allocating so many minutes his way when we know he can't do some of the things Pinson might be able to do.
Will be interesting to see how we react in the upcoming games. The rest of SEC play will be a slog, and we are going to have to win some ugly games and execute slightly better than the opposition when we face the teams with comparable talent.
