Winning on the road at Wyoming and against a P5 in WVU (even with new coach and QB) will catch some second glances. Beating SCe and Ole Miss will put MU within range of the first BCS polls that come out the 8th week of the season, i.e. at Kentucky. Wins at Vandy and at Kentucky would put MU inside the first BCS polls heading into the game at UGA.

That will be the pivot point for the season: winning in Athens is quite the challenge. But there's still 3 games after that to climb back up into a NYD bowl.
