background for herself. She promotes the idea she grew up in the Bronx. She promoted that she commuted from the Bronx to Yorktown. It was on her webpage bio until she was recently called out for it.
Her family was not wealthy. They were middle class. She went to an expensive college. Her mom had no education and after her father died his business shuttered and there were financial difficulties for her mom while the estate was going through the courts.
The media has played along portraying this image as well. It takes sifting through many articles to piece together her real background.
When called out on the inaccuracies, she didn't admit them. She resorted to using terms like "mansplaining" to attack instead.
