but it seem that some of these folks (not saying her necessarily) want to have the glory & recognition of hero status, but then decry that it puts them in danger.

I think the bigger point of the article is that political agendas put troops in danger, but when hasn't that been true? Long before Obama, that's for sure. He's just the latest version.
