Ave was a great nightlife spot. I'd go to bars & restaurants out there 2-3 nights a week. It completely changed in recent years (predating 2015 protests) as blacks started cruising through causing crime to skyrocket.
My brother in law owned a loft off Washington Ave. He bailed to Lafayette Park. I knew that move wouldn't do much good because the ghetto is still just a block away.
He is now moving to Wildwood in March.
I bailed on St. Louis City at the end of 2010 and moved to O'Fallon, MO. because I saw the urban revival efforts were starting to fail.
Another brother in law of mine just moved from Dogtown further out a bit. I'll give him a few more years before he finally abandons the city too.
