I was listening to OLD Christmas music the other day and thinking about my childhood and how it's so much different than my kids'. I grew up on a farm outside of Higginsville, which was about 4,500 people. We didn't have any major stores and Walmart didn't exist yet. Unless you ventured to one of the malls in Kansas City, you didn't see the "cool stuff" and latest toys - except between Thanksgiving and Christmas when Mattingly's - sort of a general store - opened its basement and filled it with every toy imaginable. Every kid in town and for miles around spent pretty much the entire month down there checking out the things we could only imagine the rest of the year. We definitely weren't overexposed back then. The creaky stairs and musty smell of that basement store are special Christmas memories for me.

I know, cool story bro.
