If Santos is a 15 PPG type of guy, then maybe we've got a shot.
What we've got now is an undersized, scrappy guy, is our team leader, effort leader, and thus one of our two best scorers.
Other other senior completely disappears at times. We shoot 38% from 3-point range and only 42% overall, meaning our inside scoring is mediocre at best.
Through 7 games we've been outscored, out-assisted, have committed more turnovers, but have had fewer steals (and blocks). Everything in that sentence save for the blocks tells me that our guards just aren't good enough to be consistently competitive at a high level.
With 31 games on the schedule maybe we need to win 21 to get into the NCAA tournament. We stand at 4-3 after 7 games. 17-10, is that doable? While we've played a couple of good teams so far I don't think it's a stretch to say the competition will get better.
If Santos can make some of the "outscored, out-assisted, more turnovers, less steals" go away, maybe we've got a shot.
