I've never seen anything like it

TO be honest I think it is a combination of several things.
There has been bad coaching. The team was terrible at moving the puck and playing defense at the beginning. Yeo could not get it figured out and some teams were killing us with their systems that we never adjusted to. There were nights when it felt like we were just out-coached and the team did not have the necessary strategies or set-plays to overcome the defensive sets we were seeing. Not only that, but the style of play the team is trying to play is not suited to their personnel.
There have been a ton of injuries. Bouwmeester came back and played several games (terribly) and then Yeo admitted maybe Bouwmeester was never ready. That is on the coaching staff if they let a guy come back before he could play at a pro level. Steen, Schwartz, Petro, Bortuzzo and others have all been injured.
There has been management problems. Even though Armstrong has been able to dump off some significant dead weight the last few years (see Lehtera, Sobotka, Berglund, etc), there are others that need to go that are still here. Armstrong has given too many long term deals to players who suck. Bouwmeester is killing us and in general our entire defense, save Parayko and Edmundson, is playing terrible.
There is poor leadership, in my opinion. Petro is not a fiery leader and is not an ideal choice to be a Captain. I would be on board with Petro being traded. For his size, he is not very dominant as a defenseman, and the Blues are going nowhere with him. Gunnarson is average, at best.
There has been terrible goaltending. The Blues have not been able to get this situation figured out for years. It is an embarrassment.
Berube is a good dude who is trying to coach the team to be tough, but the problem is they are not tough, and this team does not have the right players to play a tough style for sixty minutes.
This is a total rebuild at this point.
