Obama didn't save the auto industry by any stretch of the imagination. He does not have the power to spend money unless the expenditure is appropriated by Congress. The big bank bailout was Obama implementing the plan initiated by Bush during his last weeks in office. At first, Obama blamed it on Bush, then took credit for it later after it succeeded.
