In 1947, MU's regular season matchup with ku in Columbia was very similar to a 'secret scrimmage' in that due to a flu outbreak on campus only reporters and radio announcers were allowed inside the gymnasium to watch the teams play in front of empty stands. Additionally ku coach Phog Allen wasn’t even in attendance as he had suffered a concussion in practice.
MU’s entire starting lineup fouled out and ku’s Bill Sapp threw a non-connecting punch as ku won 48-38.
