I wouldn't exactly call this guy a failure.
"In five years as head coach at Auburn, Gus Malzahn has led the Tigers to a 49-24 record, five consecutive bowl games, a Southeastern Conference Championship, two SEC West Division titles and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game (2013)." Auburn Football.
Plus he has sent 20 players to the NFL in 5 years. Yes, he may be below standards for a top tier SEC school, but by no means would I consider this a failure, especially by Mizzou standards.
That said, I don't know if this would be a good hire for Mizzou or not, or if he'd even want to come here with the downgrade in resources. I would lean toward and up and coming hungry coordinator.
