In their time living together, Jontay Porter said Harris would discuss his frustrations. Nobody was harder on Harris, who is now on North Carolina State’s roster, than himself.
“After a bad game, or after he would get taken out after a couple minutes and he didn’t see anything he did wrong, he didn’t want to hear anything from anybody else,” Jontay said.
But even Jontay didn’t know Harris was transferring until the news came out.
“I was kind of hurt by that, but that’s still my guy,” he said. “He has to do what’s best for him.”
Martin was informed after a phone call with Missouri’s compliance office.
“That was it,” Martin said. “I said, ‘He is welcome to go wherever he wants to go,’ and that was the end of the conversation.”
Harris’ transfer cut Missouri’s point guard depth, which was already a concern. Martin said it made the team better.
“If a young man doesn’t want to be part of it, then you have to help him figure it out,” Martin said. “Now, he did it on his own, and you move forward. Now you know what you are dealing with, going to battle with, competing with.”
