Or at least a Senate hearing shouldn't be. In the simplest form both parties would submit written statements, orally present them subject to questioning and the information becomes part of the record for consideration.
I don't really have a clue as to the validity of anything in regard to this, but having no reason to doubt Kavanaugh, it seems that the best way to clear the air on this would be for trump to authorize further investigation that could also be part of the record and allow the process to take it's course. In the best case scenario there is a short delay and the confirmation takes place. Seems the push here is to beat the midterms and if so I'm not sure why the R's think that is so important-in fact that delay might be beneficial to them. Someone else said it best, this is good theater-well maybe not good, but theater none the less
