mainstream is shifting hard left. Centrist democrats have literally seen their party evaporate beneath them.
I have long contended the democrats further shift to the left allowed Trump to be elected. 222 counties heavily democratic, mostly in the Midwest states of Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania that twice previously voted for Obama switched over to Trump.
Why?
These democrat voters were mostly white, were marginalized by the very people they entrusted to look out for their interests. Trump said all of the things centrist democrats used to say. Jobs, revitalization of manufacturing, building a quality life for everyone versus an increasingly ascendant progressive populism focused on identity politics and a globalist economy which left many without jobs or a future to look forward to. The Midwest was aptly called the rust belt as people watched their jobs (and their futures) being farmed out overseas. In the not too distant past these same voters were called blue collar workers. Now with identity politics the "new norm" they are called uneducated whites.
I am still surprised by the mass media echo chamber. The liberal elites and mass media still don't get why Trump won. This president is so rapid fire with the dismantling of the Obama legacy in every facet imaginable that the Democrats and their allies can not keep up with him. He literally has liberals running around in a tizzy as if their hair is on fire. The constant outrage over everything has not allowed the Democrats to coalesce around any message other than 'resist' everything Trump. At the same time, for all of the Democrat counter moves against Trump, all it has done is hardened the Trump base and sent every centrist democrat out of the democrat party.
