First of all, which has been lost in this, Osceola was a larger town than Lawrence in 1860. Osceola never recovered. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacking_of_Osceola
The Jayhawkers completely leveled the town. Burned the wooden homes and used canons to blow away the brick ones.
Let's talk about the coward Jayhawker Jim Lane, Senator of Kansas. His Jayhawker's first fight was at the Battle of Dry Wood Creek against Sterling Price and got whipped.
He never engaged a confederate army ever again, he went after Missouri farmers, culminating in the Sacking of Osceola.
Instead of supporting federal forces at the Battle of Lexington, he was busy plundering.
He was the target of the Lawrence raid. He hid in the corn fields while Quantril's men broke up the grand piano he took as loot from Osceola.
