Per the NCAA website giving a detailed explanation of the investigation process to expect: "the involved NCAA member institution is informed of the enforcement staff's inquiry by a letter of preliminary inquiry to the institution's chief executive officer.... (it) shall advise the CEO that the enforcement staff will be undertaking a preliminary investigation and, whenever possible, shall indicate the nature of the potential violations (including the involved sport), the approximate time period in which the alleged violations occurred, the identities of the involved individuals, the approximate time frame for the investigation and an indication that other facts may be developed during the course of the investigation that may relate to additional violations. "

Via the Sunshine Law process applicable to situations like this, I made a request to obtain the correspondence referenced from the NCAA. The response received from MU on the matter is as follows:

This is in final response to your records request for a copy of the April 14, 2014 notice of inquiry from the NCAA to the University of Missouri Athletics Department. Your request has been assigned tracking #***** and a copy is included below for reference.

I have been informed there is no document responsive to your request.
