told the Russians “I will have more flexibility after the election.”

The Russians attempted to interfere in our elections. We know that, the Russians know that. What is gained from pushing that issue?

By “taking him at his word” Trump allows Putin to save face and then move on to other issues that actually matter.

No matter what is said Russia will continue meddling in US politics and we will continue meddling in theirs. So we need to protect our interest and they will protect theirs.
