about his security with job at the Cardinals and the split fan base rooting for him to fail/blaming everything on him and the other half semi-defending him.

He remembers sitting on the bench at Old Busch as a player in 2000 and a plane flying over was dragging a banner tail sign that said "Fire Tony."

He said he was dumbfounded. Tony was one of the best managers in the game and they were on a little mid-season skid and a segment of the fan base wanted to fire him.

Matheny then said, "the day I signed up for this, I knew it was going to happen."

The Cardinal's just fired their all time winning-est manager in club history and the majority of Cardinal fans are happy.
