In the fourth inning of the 0–0 game, the Royals' Frank White was called out on an attempted steal of second base, but replays show he had beaten the tag. Several pitches later the batter, Pat Sheridan, hit a single to right field which would have given Charlie Liebrandt and the Royals a 1-0 lead.
Luckily the better team ended up winning regardless through their fortitude and superiority and a great game wasn't ruined by poor officiating. Most wouldn't remember that today, as its not likely Royals fans would still be complaining about the impact of a call nearly 30 years later.
